Salt Lake City has the oldest windows in the county and the least standard ones. Older east-side and Avenues houses often have wood-framed screens, odd sizes, and openings that are not square any more, so a screen that fits properly usually has to be measured on the house rather than taken off a shelf.

Window Screen Replacement covers the same work here as anywhere else we go: what is included, and what changes the price.

Who does the work: a trusted contractor, paid by you directly, with Woodbury standing behind the work.

Window Screen Replacement across Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is the oldest housing stock in the county by a distance, with a median build year of 1965 and two thirds of the houses built before 1980. The Avenues, Sugar House and the east-side streets have mature trees, wood trim, and original details worth keeping, which changes how carefully you work on them.

What we usually find on Salt Lake City houses

  • Wood-framed screens original to the house
  • Openings that are no longer square, so nominal sizes do not fit
  • Odd and non-standard sizes, several different ones on one house
  • Original hardware worth keeping rather than replacing

The housing in Salt Lake City

The median Salt Lake City home was built in 1965, and 65.4% of the housing here went up before 1980. That makes it some of the oldest housing we work on, roughly 20 years older than the middle of our service area, so most of what we find here has been repaired at least once already.

Questions

Frequently asked

My screens are wood framed and original. Can they be matched?

We measure each opening rather than assuming a standard size, which is what matters on a house this age. Whether to match the original or fit a modern frame is worth talking through.

The window openings are not square. Is that a problem?

It is common in older houses and it is exactly why measuring on site matters. A screen cut to nominal size will sit badly in an opening that has moved.
