Screens are the least urgent thing on a house and the most visible. Sun makes the mesh brittle, wind puts a dent in the frame, a pet goes through it, and after a few seasons a whole elevation looks tired even though nothing is actually wrong with the house. It is also the cheapest thing on this list to put right.

What this covers

  • Rescreening existing frames
  • New frames built to the opening
  • Sliding patio door screens and rollers
  • Pet resistant mesh where it is worth it
  • Solar screen mesh on sun facing windows
  • Straightening or replacing bent frames

What affects the price

Every house is a bit different. These are the things worth knowing before we can give you a number:

  • How many openings, and whether the frames can be reused or need rebuilding
  • Which mesh you want: standard, pet resistant or solar
  • Whether any are second story and have to come out from a ladder
  • Sliding door screens, which usually need roller and track attention rather than just mesh
  • Whether the frames are a standard size or have to be built to the opening

Who does the work: The work is done by a trusted contractor we bring in, and you pay them directly. Woodbury Home Service stands behind their work and is on your side if anything is not right.

How the job goes

  1. Every opening is measured on the house rather than off the old frame, because frames move and openings are not always square.
  2. Sound frames are re-meshed and re-splined; bent or corroded ones are replaced.
  3. Mesh is tensioned so it sits flat, which is what stops a large screen bowing later.
  4. Screens go back in and get checked in the track before we leave.

What we do not do

Worth knowing before we come out, so nobody wastes a visit.

  • We do not repair or replace the windows themselves, only the screens.
  • We do not do glass, seals or failed double glazing.
  • We do not fit security screens or screen doors.
  • We do not do retractable or motorised screen systems.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can the old frames be reused?

Usually yes. If the frame is straight and the corners are sound, rescreening it costs less than building new. Bent or corroded frames are worth replacing because they will never sit properly again.

What is solar screen mesh?

A denser mesh that cuts a real amount of heat and glare on sun facing windows. It costs more and darkens the view slightly, so it is usually worth it on the west side and often not worth it elsewhere.

My patio door screen keeps jumping the track.

That is almost always the rollers or the track rather than the screen, and it is a much smaller job than replacing the door.

Is it worth doing just one or two?

Yes, and people often do. There is no minimum.
