A gutter can be perfectly clear and still leak. Seams, joints and end caps are the parts that open up, and along the Wasatch Front they open up because of freeze and thaw rather than age alone. Water then runs down the fascia instead of through the system, which is how a small sealing job turns into a wood repair if it is left long enough.
What this covers
- Resealing seams, joints and end caps
- Resetting fall on a run that has lost its slope
- Refastening loose or pulling hangers
- Re-seating downspout outlets and elbows
- Extending a downspout that is dumping too close to the foundation
- Telling you honestly when a run is past sealing
What affects the price
Every house is a bit different. These are the things worth knowing before we can give you a number:
- How many seams and end caps are actually leaking rather than just visible
- Whether the run has lost its fall and needs resetting rather than sealing
- How many stories, and how the ladder access works on the affected elevation
- Whether the fascia behind the leak has taken damage already
- Whether the section is worth sealing at all, or has reached replacement
Who does the work: The work is done by a trusted contractor we bring in, and you pay them directly. Woodbury Home Service stands behind their work and is on your side if anything is not right.
How the job goes
- The run has to be clear before anyone can see a joint properly, so clearing comes first.
- Old failed sealant comes off rather than getting a new bead laid over it.
- Joints, end caps and outlets are resealed, and loose hangers are refastened.
- We flush the run afterwards and watch where the water goes, because that is the only real test.
What we do not do
Worth knowing before we come out, so nobody wastes a visit.
- We do not replace whole gutter systems. This is repair to what is already there.
- We do not fabricate seamless runs on site.
- We do not rebuild rotten fascia. If the wood behind has gone, that is carpentry and we will say so.
- We do not re-pitch a run that was hung wrong from the start.
Questions
Frequently asked
What is the difference between this and gutter cleaning?
Cleaning empties the run. Sealing repairs the joints and end caps that have opened up, which is usually why water is coming out somewhere it should not. A gutter can be spotless and still leak.
Do you replace gutters?
Not currently. This is repair, sealing and resetting what is already there. If a run is past saving we will tell you that rather than seal it and take your money.
Will sealing fix a gutter that overflows in heavy rain?
Often not. Overflow is usually a blockage or a lost fall rather than a leak, which is a different fix. It is worth having someone look before deciding which one you have.
